Review: Gavin Rossdale – Taste of Chicago
A review of the Gavin Rossdale Taste of Chicago Show:
Gavin Rossdale Appears Live at Taste of Chicago
Singer/guitarist Gavin Rossdale made an appearance at the Taste of Chicago this past weekend, thrilling fans with a free concert at the Petrillo Music Shell located just one block from Lake Michigan on Chicago’s famous Grant Park waterfront. Rossdale turned up the heat on an already scorching day in the Windy City, with his opening performance of “Bullet-Proof Skin,” followed by other gems like “Glycerin,” a cover of “Landslide,” “Everything Zen,” and a segment of the song “Love Remains the Same” from his Wanderlust album.
The Taste of Chicago was celebrating its 30 year anniversary, and remains one of the only free music festivals in the U.S. Other big names appearing throughout the week were Disney Channel’s Emily Osment, The Steve Miller Band, Rob Thomas, Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, and rappers Salt-n-Peppa, and Bell Biv Devoe.
Rossdale had wife Gwen Stefani and his two children Kingston and Zuma in tow, though they stayed in the wings happily watching the show. Kingston especially enjoyed rocking his own party backstage with mom in a pair of worn blue jeans and a white T, just like Dad. Zuma was awarded an extra accessory; a pair of protective headphones for the highly charged set, but that didn’t stop him from dancing in the wings.
Rossdale recently announced that his former band Bush is headed for a reunion tour, igniting a media Bush-fire of excitement from fans. The 44 year old British rocker is the lead singer of The Band that sold over 10 million albums in the U.S. before breaking up in 2002. Although they released a Greatest Hits album in 2005 followed by a live album shortly thereafter, Bush have not performed live together in over eight years.
After generating success with his debut solo album Wanderlust in 2008, the alternative/pop rocker is planning to release an album with Bush this fall called Everything Always Now, in conjunction with The Band’s reunion tour.
